GETTING
READY, I feel it's important to start from the ground up. Shifting gears and pushing pedals comes only after you're properly packed. In this and Chapter 4, you'll discover a couple of pre-driving secrets that will make your adventures more enjoyable and "bring 'em back alive" every time! Pre-trip inspection, packing, staying clean and other hints that have evolved over time are also offered for your perusal. There's a dash of gas cans and ice chests sprinkled in to spice it up a bit, too. In the meantime, more of those nasty old husbands' tales will be put to bed once and for all. PRE-TRIP CHECK To jump off the couch, into the 4X, and head right out is definitely spontaneous, but ridiculous! I’m not an inspection and maintenance freak, but I certainly don’t go unprepared. Preparation is the key to successful journeys.

similar to the pre-trip checklist that follows is used on all of my
trips and tours. It's just a beginning that you'll eventually groom to
personal perfection. The intent is not to survive a trans-Africa
expedition, but simply to have a safe and responsible weekend outing.
