REPAIRS, CHAPTER 8
Look to this chapter for generalized field repair information. I throw in quite a few related thoughts, too. Working with tools, your getchaback box, field resourcefulness and the like are examples. Volume II provides more specifics. My intent with this Volume is to make you more productive when down and stumped. Both Volumes combine repair procedures and technical information by subject. In other words, all the tire information is in one place. That means if you have a flat, you'll find how to repair it mixed with airing down and data on tire pressure measurement. This chapter won't transform your repair skills from poor to perfect, but it will help you lick a few fundamental field failures like a pro. Something as easy as changing a tire can be difficult and dangerous if you have never done it. With that, let's first move into my favorite subjects: personal responsibility and safety. TAKE RESPONSIBILITY If you want to ensure you will roll reliably on down the road unscathed, take accountability for all your actions. This starts with preparation and planning and ends when you safely arrive back home. Stay alert on the trail, too. Personal responsibility really pays off, but sooner or later, something will go wrong. |
