WHAT:
Mini-vacations seem to be our forte, so we’ve resurrected
this one from the past. It’s easy, close, fun and
educational. We’ll work our way down through the high
chaparral to the Borrego Valley for check in for our 2-night
stay at the Palm Canyon Resort. That evening, we’ll watch
the setting sun spill its mellow yellows over the most
spectacular view of this State Park — Font’s Point. Then,
it’s back to the hotel just in time for our group dinner and
a special slide show that sheds even more light on the area.
Saturday, we’ll explore Sandstone Canyon and, with majority
vote, hike to the "Phantom" rock formation. On
Sunday, we take on the Texas Dip and San Felipe Wash and work
our way into the Pumpkin Patch to marvel at its namesake
concretions. From there, it’s off for Moonscape, bubbling
mud pots and an artesian well. All in all, three good days of
badlands adventures.
