MOJAVE EXPEDITION |

|
TRIP LEADER: Roger Vargo and Harry Lewellyn WHAT: Treat your 4X4 SUV to a day of off-highway adventure. Discover a diverse cross section of local history from Mulholland's Aqueduct to Burro Schmidt's Tunnel (featured on California’s Gold with Huell Howser). Explore the picturesque El Paso Mountains of Eastern Kern County, where mineral wealth from coal to gold to Dutch Cleanser was once mined. If you’ve been hankering to participate in one of our Mojave Expedition classes, offered through area community colleges, but the classes either didn’t fit your schedule or were cancelled, here’s a chance to do just the field trip portion with no classroom session! Our meeting spot will be the Bureau of Land Management’s Jawbone Station, located about 20 miles north of Mojave on Highway 14. Once underway, we’ll travel through lands administered by both the BLM and Red Rock Canyon State Park. We’ll end the day in the living ghost town of Randsburg. |
