TRIP
LEADER: Roger
Vargo
From
our forest base camp, we’ll spend the better part of three
days and two nights above the 7,000-foot elevation mark,
exploring and driving through the high country.
WHAT:
This tour is named for Monache Meadows, the largest meadows in
the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The meadows, in turn, are named
for the Monache Indians who lived in Inyo and Mono counties
more than a century ago. Our journey through the high country
also includes the Sherman Pass 4x4 Road. Prior 4WD
driving experience is helpful but not required. Because of the
narrow clearances through trees, only compact pickups, sport
utility vehicles or jeep-type vehicles are permitted.
The scenery is spectacular, but the camping is primitive for
two nights at the same location.
