TRIP
LEADER: Roger
Vargo
The
Piute Mountains of Kern County are part of California’s
Sierra Nevada mountain range. The Piute Passage is an easy
camping excursion the entire family (including pets) can
enjoy.
WHAT:
Suitable for stock vehicles (including full-size), this trip
combines sightseeing and exploration of historic areas.
Starting near Mojave, we’ll explore some of the area back
roads and mining history before climbing into the Piute
Mountains. Like travelers from the last century, we’ll
set up our primitive camp under the trees of the Sequoia
National Forest. Once we reach civilization on Sunday,
we’ll have to option (depending on river conditions) to take
a one-hour "Lickety Split" white water raft trip on
the Kern River. This will be at an additional cost of about
$20 per person.
