TRIP LEADER: Harry Lewellyn (aka the Silver Coyote)

This is the perfect way to get acquainted with the mysterious Baja peninsula - in 2WD on the highway - go Whale Watching and see magnificent cave art.  These are the grand mural-style cave paintings you hear so much about!Whale Watching up close

WHAT: Let Baja introduce herself with an easy (passenger cars OK), all-hotel trip midway down the mysterious peninsula for one of Mother Nature’s most spectacular treats — the whale watching of the Pacific gray whale. Scammon’s Lagoon is the winter breeding and calving grounds for these 50-foot wonders, which means newborns, too!  We’ll put Tijuana and Ensenada far behind as we adjust to the Mexican pace and desert scenery.  Time allowing, we may visit the cave paintings near our first nCave Paintings touright at the La Pinta Hotel at Cataviña.  It’s only a short next-day's jaunt from there to Guerrero Negro. Allowing that the winds can rearrange our schedule, the next day, we’ll board our 20-foot whale watching pangas for the experience of a lifetime.  That evening there is a group dinner at the Malarrimo Cafe on the host, the ol' silver Coyote.  The next day, we’ll marvel at the remote cave art. It's of the grand mural-style cave paintings, then enjoy a catered feast in the spring desert, again, on the Coyote.  Our optional day is open for the group to choose, but it typically ends up with a trip to Misión San Borja and a lunch with the caretaker and family, on their porch.   But all too soon, it’s off north to Ensenada to share our whale tales at Hussong’s Cantina and other touristy spots just 60 miles south of the US border.
